2014 Oscars Beauty: Ellen DeGeneres' Power Pixie and Au Natural Nails

At last night's 86th Annual Academy Awards, host Ellen DeGeneres opted for a low-key yet stylish beauty look, including a chic, powerful pixie cut and fresh, au natural nails. In order to transform the classic gamine pixie from pretty to powerful, Ellen's go-to hairstylist Laini Reeves of Starworks Artists turned to Rene Furterer's stellar range of versatile styling products. "The Rene Furterer products really helped to take this iconic look to the next level," says Laini. "They created a multi-textured look with great depth, while keeping her balayage blonde locks soft yet edgy."

Says Reeves, "I first sprayed René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray - no rinse at the roots. Next, I used a blow-dryer while twisting the hair into small sections, creating a bend all over. I then created volume on the crown and on the sides with a small round brush. To finish, using the René Furterer MODELING PASTE, I tousled the hair a bit with my fingers to enhance the texture and to adjust the shape. Ellen was ready to electrify the stage at the Oscars."

Although DeGeneres went polish-free, her nails looked clean and beautiful, thanks to some behind-the-scenes buffing by celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann.

Get the Look:
1. Deborah buffed DeGeneres' nails, but not to a shine.

2. Using her Smooth Operator, a 4-way nail buffer, Deborah shaped the nails with side 1 and 2.

3. To complete the look, she buffed the entire nail with side 3 for a casual, matte finish.
